Jeweled Candles to light your way

I’m not typically a candle snob.  In fact, I usually get them for gifts.  And half the time, I forget to light them.

But that was before!  Before these jeweled candles from Primal Elements at Joss & Main crossed my path, which come in inspired scents like spun sugar, champagne and citrus, bergamot and chamomile teas, and rhubarb-quince tart.

While those do call to mind some scrumptious scents, I don’t care what they smell like.  (Did I already tell you I rarely light them?)  The fact that they look so incredibly adorable with their bedazzled selves is reason enough to stock up.

And pass them out as gifts too… for other people, who may or may not light their candles.

Daily Covet: Tote your favorite city

Tote your favorite city… and don’t get lost in it either, for that matter, when you carry this earth-friendly map tote from well, maptote on myhabit.com.

At 14″ x 15.5″, these are roomy enough for the beach, the farmer’s market or just to and from work.  Of course my fave is the Paris one, but there are other ones too, like the weekend getaway trio with Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and the Hamptons on them.

I love them so much that I want them all.  One for $22 or three for $30.  You do the math.

Paris in the Springtime

I’m so needing a vacation right now, and so is my husband, who works too hard.

There’s no place I’d rather be than in Paris.  I love Paris.

I was there in 2004 with my mom, and we stayed at this boutique hotel near the Louvre, called the Normandy Hotel.  It was literally around the corner from the wing, in which Napoleon III’s apartment stands.

It was also a stone’s throw from the Place Vendome, the Opéra and the shops on the Rue de Rivoli.  We could take a pretty good hike to the Champs Élysées or an even braver hike to the Marais – my favorite neighborhood. What could be better than Paris in the Springtime with the one you love?  Right.  Nothing.

Mirror, Mirror on my wall…

Mirrors were used initially as handheld mirrors, adopted by the Celts from the Romans and by the end of the Middle Ages had become quite common throughout Europe.  Full length mirrors did not become common until the first century A.D. and since then have been used as much, if not more so, as objects for decoration.

By the time of the Renaissance, Nürnberg and Venice had established outstanding reputations as centers of mirror production, and were most well-known for their quality.  From the late 17th century onward, mirrors–and their frames–played an increasingly important part in the decoration of rooms. The early frames were usually of ivory, silver, ebony, or tortoiseshell or were veneered with marquetry of walnut, olive, and laburnum.

These days, you can spend a fortune on mirrors – or find great reproductions at a fraction of the price.  But almost everyone has mirrors, and most times they are used more for decor purposes, than as a practical household item.  More importantly, even novice and amateur designers know that the perfect placement of a mirror can make an otherwise small space look much more spacious.

I have quite a few decorative mirrors in my home already, but am still fascinated (and tempted) by unique shapes, styles and materials used in mirror creation today.  Here are a few pretty cool mirrors from GILT.com today…

Mad Men Countdown – 25 days

It’s March 1st, and that means we only have 25 more days until the Mad Men Season 5 premier!

In honor of my absolute adoration for Mad Men, the cast and most of all, costume designer Janie Bryant, I am going to try to post as many of the gorgeous outfits as possible.

So for today, my #1 outfit of all time – my absolute fave – is Betty Draper’s black dress she wore in Rome.  Here’s a reminder…

Daily Covet: Paris in Color

Speaking of Paris… I ran across this book that is to be released on April 18th.

The book is 128 presumably beautiful pages of photographs taken by Nichole and Evan Robertson.  I can’t wait to see Paris at its colorful best right from the comfort of my own home (since I can’t be there, that is!)

I also can’t wait to get my name on the waiting list.  And so can you right here!

Daily Covet: Navy and White Striped Blazer

Looking Parisian-chic in stripes should be a cinch this season.  Anything and everything you could ever want can be found in stripes.  And this adorable blazer is no exception.  It has a great fit, it’s a great weight for spring and summer, and it looks great with every color under the sun.

My Banana Republic happens to be next door to Ann Taylor, where there is also an adorable red knit dress that I would love to wear with it for going out or a day at the office.  But throw it on with jeans and a bright yellow tee, and you have a cute “around town” outfit.   Or choose kelly green boyfriend chinos and a denim shirt for a business casual Friday and shopping with your best girls.  The possibilities are endless!  (See Polyvore.com for where to buy.)

One jacket, three ways!

Daily Covet: Work Table For 1, Please

At this very moment, I am writing this blog, editing another blog for Momaha.com and trying to also complete some copywriting… at my kitchen table. (Oh, and eating lunch too!)

I am dying for my own little space!

One that I can write in.  One that I can set up and use my sewing machine in.  One that I can store important papers in.  You get the picture?  I googled “home office spaces” and came up with the most perfect office space ever.  Complete with Eiffel Tower, no less.

Get a load of this office space courtesy of The Office Stylist.  UH-MA-ZING!

She starts with all my favorite colors....

Remember that sewing machine space I wanted?

Etegere, complete with Eiffel Tower statue...

And don't forget my other favorites...mirrored accessories and caned-back Louis chairs. Sigh....
