My husband and I have had our fair share of good and bad times. Times when the stressors of raising of our children seem to drive us apart. Times when jobs mean being away from each other more and the feeling of being disconnected sets in. Times when we each feel like we are doing the lion’s share. And let’s be honest – times when we felt like giving up. Read full article here.
Tempers are running high after Omaha’s own Warren Buffet wrote an Op-Ed for the New York Times this week, entitled “Stop Coddling the Super-Rich.” I’m finding that people are posting responses; some are polite and articulate and others are seemingly by raging lunatics with an unhealthy amount of rage. One thing is for sure – there are a lot of people who didn’t even read Buffett’s piece. How can you comment intelligently on something you haven’t read? Read more on Momaha.com today.
No, no, it’s not what you think.
My friend, who suggested today at our lunch date, that I find her some work appropriate dresses, is not in fact, a prostitute.
It got me thinking though. Since this working girl (me!) is no longer in a work force that enforces a dress code, I went looking.
Here are some great choices for you girls that are lucky enough to shower before noon (who are we kidding? I don’t shower until my kids go to bed!) and hang out with adults… who know lots of words… and don’t follow you to the bathroom… and can get their own juice…
But who ever said, 9 to 5 had to be buttoned up and stuffy? Some of these darling dresses are classic styles in modern colors and prints… and there are one or two, for those days when you need to wear your “power suit” er… power dress.
This is a must-have for every wardrobe. A DVF wrap dress is the first and last word in women’s worktime dresses. And she’s always throwing cool new prints into her knit bag of tricks!
Mark my words, you will see this color EVERYWHERE this fall. So channel your inner Joan Holloway and put on this body concious stunner, with a structured black bag and classic black heels.
This is about as sophisticated as it gets. This dress means business, but is super body concious and not in the least bit stuffy. Add knee-high boots and a bag that pops for maximum modern impact.
This little number is a little “Rock Star” with leather trim but a classic silhouette makes it tame enough for the office. Classic chocolate pumps with a hint of irridescence would be perfect for this sheath.
Who says you have to wear black, navy and grey to the office. Some days, you need a bit of oomph to get you through the long day. This Milly piece is a fun way to be appropriately covered, but in a style and print that says, “I march to the beat of my own damn drumb!”
This hot little number is my favorite. So it’s a bit edgy but it oozes confidence and fearlessness. And it’ll make you stand out among a bunch of stuffy suits (i.e. men!) Not to mention, it’s fabulously priced!!
Ok, so there’s a day when you really need to exude classic elegance. Maybe you are working with some old school folks, who won’t take you seriously in something a bit more modern. You won’t go wrong in Ralph Lauren with gold buttons. But it’s still so sleek – you’ll feel like a million bucks, while your getting them to donate theirs.
This little number is a super sassy and modern print with a knockout neck line. Wear spring and summer with red slingbacks and chunky jewelry, and this is the perfect way to look cool and stay cool!
Ok, so I am temporarily over my political melt-down and am back to virtual shopping. It’s back to the business of “what to buy?”
If I haven’t said it enough, I’ll say it again – I LOVE coats!
Last year, I really wanted to buy a new puffer coat for the winter because my last one was purchased while I was pregnant. Therefore, it’s not the most flattering down pup tent a woman can wear.
So I’ve laid eyes on what I’d like for this winter and here it is. Too cute to pass up for sure!
I am so fired up right now… I can hardly stop to type this post. The government debacle that continues to rage on… and on… and on… has so many up in arms.
My neighbor and friend (just kidding – it just sounded good), Warren Buffet, wrote an amazing (and for some with their head in the sand, an enlightening) piece for the NYT Op-Ed column today (see here.) It states what one would think is the obvious, yet the practice is widespread.
STOP CODDLING THE RICH! Guess what? He got the 4-1-1 from his friends too – they’ll pay their fair share! Seriously, he asked.
It seems straight-forward enough, right? Mr. Buffett breaks it down for us, quite eloquently. In a nutshell, he pays 15% on his bazillions and very little in payroll tax, while you and I, “the middle class” (and I use this term loosely) pay 15-25% plus pretty heavy payroll taxes.
Ok, ok – so I’m posting because I wanted to get the Op-Ed out. Here is probably the single most successful man (taking into account, the number of years he’s been wealthy – sorry the rest of the guys on the top of that list!) and he’s telling us that we need to tax the top 2%!
It’s not like anyone is asking them to shoulder the burden of the country’s problems (and there are MANY, no matter which side of the political spectrum you reside on.) But is it so much to ask that they pay what every other American family has to pay? Apparently, the mega-rich think it’s a reasonable request.
Ok, any more typing and I’m bound to have a mild coronary. Please read the link and pass it on – I would but I just blogged on MOmaha.com about how it’s rude to send political and religious emails. So I will passive-aggressively post it here and on my Facebook page.
Oh yeah, on Twitter too.
So, my daily covet came from spending an evening with my neighbors at our block party.
An old friend of my husband’s from high school, just happened to crash the soiree (see what parenthood will do to you?) with this amazing wagon, which is collapsable and has millions of pockets and can fit, like a gaggle of kiddos in it….
Ok, so I’m exaggerating a little bit but check out the picture.
And it’s not only great for parents. Imagine how much alcohol you could haul to your next outdoor concert or how many groceries you could pull home, should you happen to live in the big city. The possibilities are endless!
I always thought “summer” and “homework” were mutually exclusive words. Not so much anymore, as I understand it. Read more here.
Missoni, long known for unique patterns and styles in knitwear, has collaborated with everyone’s favorite discount store, Target. This morning, I found a sneak peek of what they have “in store” for us very soon.
Here are a few of my faves – oddly I can’t wear any of it! But who doesn’t want super cute luggage to travel with, baby clothes in bright and playful prints and dishes that are almost too fun to eat off of?
Obviously, not me!
If you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animal prints like I do, you will not be disappointed this fall.
Animal prints – specifically my favorite leopard – is on everything. Belts, shoes, bags and as you see here, outerwear!
If you are a regular Daily Covet imbiber, you might remember that I am coat whore (see here.) And here are two more adorable ways to take cover in the upcoming season.
Whether you need lots of cover or just a little to take the chill off – there is something for everyone. Here are two of my favorites!
My closet is always a little off. At times, it seems I have way more fun tops and no bottoms but at this moment, I have plenty of bottoms and you guessed it – no tops!
So after virtually shopping one of my favorite sites, LesPommettes.com, I found this hot little bustier that would be a perfect year-round piece and it has boning inside for extra staying power.
Pair it with skinny jeans or a party skirt, a pencil skirt and a shrunken cardigan or a pair of drapey silk shorts and you have a go-anywhere-after-dark outfit, any day of the year!
And now it’s on sale… so that’s a plus!
